Corner Entryway Bench

This L-shaped entryway bench was built to fit an existing corner, sized exactly to the wall lengths with no compromise on storage. It seats two adults or three kids comfortably and includes flexible cubbies for various storage needs and shoe sizes.

Sapele was the right species for this project. The warm grain complemented the existing woodwork throughout the house, including the baseboards, mahogany fireplace, and front door, making it feel like it was always there.

The top is finished with a durable water-based varnish that gives a smooth hand feel while holding up to daily use, shoes, keys, and kids, without showing wear the way an oil finish would. Shelves are adjustable to accommodate what changes over time.

This is what custom means in practice. Not decorative customization, but functional customization. The piece works because it was designed for this specific space. It fits, it functions, and it looks like it belongs. That's something you can't replicate with a generic off-the-shelf piece, no matter how you style it.
